Life insurance is available for elderly persons up to age 85.

Elderly persons should not purchase term life insurance. Whole life in an amount suitable to pay for burial and funeral expenses is very affordable. A $10,000.00 policy can be purchased for under $100.00 per month and with a first day, full benefit. What this means is, if you pass away tomorrow after purchasing a senior life insurance policy, the full $10,000.00 will be paid to your beneficiary.

If you have significant health problems, such as a history of heart disease or kidney problems, you may not be eligible for a first day, full benefit policy. In this case, you will be offered a graded or modified death benefit policy. These types of special insurance policies do not pay the full death benefit for 2 to 3 years after the policy has been purchased. During the 2 or 3 year period, depending on the company your purchase your policy from, only a portion of the face value of the policy will be paid. In some cases, all premiums paid into the policy plus interest will be paid to the beneficiary.

Whole life coverage for seniors is best. The monthly premium is guaranteed to never increase, regardless of health or age. The face value is guaranteed to never decrease. The cash values are also guaranteed.

If you are elderly, you can compare life insurance quotes online with special websites that allow you to see the prices that different insurance companies charge for final expense insurance . These types of websites are available for your convenience.

Medicaid Crisis May Force States to Require Adult Children to Pay For Aging Parents

Medicaid is a jointly funded Federal and State health insurance program for low-income and needy people. Normally it covers children, the aged, blind and/or disabled. It may also cover people who are eligible to receive federally assisted income maintenance payments.
Because it is jointly run by the states and the Federal government, rules will vary from state to state. Even the name of the program varies from state to state. California calls its Medicaid program MediCal. Georgia calls its program Georgia Better. Connecticut often calls its Medicaid program just Title 19.

Whatever the program may be called, it is clear that without dramatic reform, Medicaid costs are expected to double by 2017. In 2008 the federal government spent $4.13 billion and expected 2009 expenditure will be $4.32 billion.

The states are looking for ways to reduce Medicaid costs. One idea being considered is to use a relatively unknown provision which is already on the books in 30 states. Called filial responsibility laws, these laws would obligate adult children to provide food, clothing, housing and medical attention for their indigent parents.

The definition of indigent will vary from state to state but a parent's need for assistance from a Medicaid program may be enough to support the definition of indigent. 21 of the states that already have filial responsibility laws on the books would allow a civil action to be brought by the state to obtain financial support for elder parents and get cost reimbursement.
Of particular concern should be the fact that in 12 states criminal penalties can be imposed and in 3 states both criminal and civil actions can be brought.

Most of these laws do exempt children who are not able to pay. However, the definition of what is considered in making the determination of ability to pay varies by state.
The state that currently have filial responsibility laws on the books are Alaska, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia.

Expatriate Group Employee Benefit Plans
Through the parent company TFG Global Insurance Solutions Ltd., Expat Financial offers brokerage services for Canadian, US and other international companies with operations outside of North America who require international group insurance & pension benefits for their expatriate, third-country nationals and key local nationals! Coverage is available for companies with a minimum of three employees working outside their country of residence. This is a unique and natural extension of our extensive work with clients in employee benefits. We have become a leader in providing
international group insurance plans to clients around the world.

Expat Financial can even cover some local companies who want the security, portability and quality of an international benefit plan. More and more companies outside of N. America and Europe are looking beyond local insurance companies, where regulations permit. This is especially true in less developed countries.

More and more Canadian and U.S. companies are opening offices in areas such as Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and South America, often in countries with limited or no local benefits coverage. In some nations where local benefits coverage may be available, local currency fluctuations for expatriate employees is a major concern along with the financial stability of the local insurance company. Most expatriate employees want to receive benefits in a major currency, especially if disabled.

A multi-national company with operations in several countries can pool the risk and administration under one plan with a companies such as Zurich Life, Aetna Global, IHI, BUPA, Allianz, Cigna, Lloyds of London. This is great for companies with highly mobile employees who require portable coverage. Pooling can also lower the premium rates due to economies of scale.
Expat Financial can source international group insurance plans from a variety of large and respected insurance companies for
multinational companies, Non-government Organizations, non-profits, governments and international schools.

Several benefits are available, such as Group LTD, AD&D, Life Insurance, Health, Dental and Emergency Medical Evacuation & Assistance Insurance. The risk and the administration for numerous operations and countries is pooled under one plan. Benefits can be paid in several major currencies.

For companies with less than 3 expatriate employees or individual expatriates, we can also provide individual International Health Insurance Protection as well as individual life and disability plans!

Expat Financial can also provide quotes for an International Pension Plan with on a defined benefit or contribution basis with a large and established insurance and financial companies. These plans are free of taxes on accumulations and there are no withholding taxes on benefits paid. A variety of investments can be made available. The administration costs are much lower for the company and the employees than setting-up an individual plan. Check with your tax advisor to confirm your tax status at your location.

Finally, North American companies often have people outside of North America that are "Key Personnel", that is if they died, the local or parent company operation would suffer a profit loss, loss of confidence etc. A parent company might also need to buy out the deceased shareholder’s shares. Many financial advisors recommend using key-person life insurance to protect against these risks.

Insurance companies don’t like to insure people who live outside of North America or who are not Canadian or US citizens. They get more nervous if that key-person lives in a risky country such as Columbia or South Africa. Expat Financial can offer an International Life Insurance policy with benefits payable in a variety of currencies to take the risk off the company’s hands and place it with a large international insurance company. A variety of plans are available, such as Term Insurance and Whole Life.

Introduction to life insurance

Term life insurance is temporary protection. For children, this is typically only purchased to provide a death benefit to the parents or gaurdian to cover the childs burial expenses should an unlikely (and certainly unwanted) death occur.

Term life does not build any cash value and has no future benefit to the child later in life. The premium payments will be increased when the policy renews. Term offers only a death benefit and nothing more. There is no investment or cash value that builds in a term policy.

Whole life insurance however, is commonly purchased for children to provide both burial expenses as well as, an investment opportunity for the child that will benefit them later on in life. Purchasing a Whole life policy for a child while they are young is very inexpensive in comparison to them buying it later on in life. Cash value begins building the end of the third year that the policy is in force.

If you make an educated decision, you can invest in your child's future by opting for a whole life policy. The accumulated cash value at age 65 is generally enough to provide a reasonable retirement fund if the face value of the policy is great enough.

Compare quotes and policy details from several companies before making a final decision. Different insurance companies charge different premiums for the same policy face value. Get as much whole life coverage for your children as you can afford. It will benefit them and their future family long after you're gone.

Oh No! I Just Got Married - What's Going to Happen to My Car Insurance?

When you got married you probably didn't spend a whole lot of time thinking about how it was going to affect your car insurance-or any of the rest of your finances, for that matter! Although the wedding undoubtedly left an impression on your bank account! Now that you've said your I do's it's time to get down to the slightly less romantic side of marriage-starting with your car insurance.

You have a number of choices when it comes to your car insurance policy. Assuming you and your new spouse both drive, the two of you probably already have separate policies. If you wanted to keep those separate policies you're certainly entitled to, although it will probably cost you more to do that than it would to just take the plunge, consolidate your assets (and expenses) and pick up a joint policy.

Most married couples prefer a joint policy, for a number of reasons:
1) Insurance companies consider married drivers to be more stable, and they usually knock a pretty noticeable percentage off your car insurance rates because of it. You can save over $100 a year between the two of you by picking up a joint policy rather than continuing to fly solo.
2) Sooner or later, whether you have two vehicles or not you're going to find yourself playing musical cars. One car's going to break down, someone's air conditioning isn't going to work or you're going to need the truck for hauling something. It could be as simple as someone can't find their keys or doesn't have enough gas. Either way, you're going to end up sharing vehicles. If you're both over 25 this isn't a big deal, but if you're not and you get into an accident it could be a huge problem.

3) It's cheaper to have one policy than two. If the two of you kept your policies separately even at the best rates you'd likely be paying over $160 a month. A joint policy very rarely runs that high.

4) It's easier! You're going to have enough bills as it is-your electric bill, your phone bill, your cable bill and your cell phone bill, not to mention little things like rent, groceries and club memberships. And Internet. And...well, you get the picture. Why would you volunteer for another bill you have to remember to pay when you could just pay both policies in one swoop?
